SOP For Shift Handover

Standard operating procedure for effective shift handover in the production department of pharma.

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to develop a standard procedure for handing over one shift to another.

2.0 Scope

This SOP is applicable to the procedure used for charge handover of shifts in the production department of the pharmaceutical industry.

3.0 Responsibility

3.1 Officer production/assistant manager production is responsible for shift handover. 

3.2 Head of production (HOD) is responsible to ensure the implementation of this SOP.

Note 

Shift handover SOP is of great importance in those pharmaceutical industries where the plant remains functional in 2 or 3 shifts.

4.0 Procedure

4.1 From Day Shift To Night Shift 

4.1.1 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift should meet with the senior officer production/AM production of the night shift for shift handover with actual physical area visit.

4.1.2 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall handover the written production plan approved by HOD for the night shift.

4.1.3 The plan includes all the inprocess batches and upcoming batches during the night shift.

4.1.4 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall inform about the status of each area and machine with product name and batch number.

4.1.5 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall inform regarding the change overs and under maintenance machines and areas.

4.1.6 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall provide critical precautions for any specific batch or procedure.

4.1.7 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall inform about the breakdown of the day shift and measures taken to avoid reoccurrence.

4.1.8 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall give instructions about deployment of workforce during night shift.

4.1.9 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall give instructions about the priority areas to cover gaps &  manage breaks for maximum output.

4.1.10 The senior officer production/AM production of day shift shall not leave the production department unless the night shift senior officer production/AM production arrived.

4.2 From Night Shift To Day Shift 

4.2.1 The senior officer production/AM production of the night shift should physically meet with the senior officer production/AM production of the day shift for shift handover.

4.2.2 The senior officer production/AM production of night shift shall handover the night shift handover logbook to the senior officer production/AM production of day shift.

4.2.3 The senior officer production/AM production of the night shift shall communicate all the tasks of the night shift.

4.2.4 The senior officer production/AM production of night shift shall inform about the tasks not completed in night shift (if any)

4.2.5 The senior officer production/AM production of night shift shall inform about the night shift breakdowns & special instructions related to any task (if any).
