1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this SOP is to develop a standard procedure for operation and cleaning of vernier caliper.
2.0 Scope
The current standard operating procedure is for developing the procedure for operation and cleaning the vernier caliper used in the production department.
3.0 Responsibility
3.1 Production Pharmacist & compression machine operator is responsible for operating and cleaning of vernier caliper.
3.2 The HOP is responsible for ensuring the implementation of this SOP.
3.3 Q.A Officer monitors the compliance of this SOP.
4.0 Procedure
4.1 Production pharmacist shall ensure that the vernier caliper is cleaned and calibrated.
4.2 Press the ON/OFF button on the vernier caliper to turn it ON and OFF.
4.3 Now select the measuring unit i.e inches or millimeter by pressing the in/mm button.
4.4 Press the zero button to adjust the value on display at zero.
4.5 Now move the slider right or left by rotating the slider roller with your thumb.
4.6 To measure the thickness of the tablet or diameter of punches, place the tablet or punch in between the inner jaws and note the reading on display.
4.7 Outer jaws of vernier caliper are used to measure the inner diameter of any object.
4.8 The thin sharp tail of vernier caliper is used to measure cup depth of punches or depth of any narrow opening.
4.9 After taking reading, bring the slider to the zero value and turn it OFF by pressing the OFF button.
5.0 Cleaning Of Vernier Caliper
5.1 Clean the jaws and out and inner surface of vernier caliper with lint free cloth to remove any powder.
5.2 Clean the jaws and outer and inner surface of vernier caliper with lint free cloth soaked in 70% IPA during product change over.
5.3 Place the cleaned vernier caliper in the box.
